Senior Engineering Manager - DevSecOps (38874)

Location & working arrangement

London or Nuneaton, UK
Full-time, hybrid working

We offer hybrid working, with occasional presence at one of our Holland & Barrett offices in London or Nuneaton (or another designated H&B location) for team meetings, collaboration sessions and key events.

About H&B

Following a major digital transformation, we are now a fully cloud-native organisation, leveraging containers, Kubernetes, Serverless, and event-driven architectures to support our continued growth.

We are building a new secure operational platform to enable our engineering teams to move faster, more safely, and with greater confidence. To support this, we are looking for an Engineering Manager – DevSecOps to lead and grow a high-performing team responsible for delivering secure, scalable platform capabilities.

Our ambition is to deliver a strong developer experience with a clear, automated, and secure path to production. We treat the platform as a product for engineers. Security, reliability, and usability are first-class concerns, designed in from the start rather than bolted on later.

This platform underpins our engineering standards and operational excellence, enabling teams to ship high-quality software efficiently while maintaining strong security and compliance controls.

About the Role

As Senior Engineering Manager – DevSecOps, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for building and operating secure platform capabilities and DevSecOps tooling. This is a people-focused leadership role with a strong technical foundation.

You will be accountable for team health, delivery outcomes, and the effective execution of the DevSecOps roadmap. While you will maintain technical awareness and credibility, your primary focus will be enabling your engineers to do their best work, providing clarity, removing obstacles, and fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with senior engineers, security partners, and product engineering teams to ensure the platform evolves in a way that balances developer autonomy, security, and operational reliability.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, support, and develop a high-performing DevSecOps engineering team
  • Own delivery outcomes for DevSecOps initiatives, ensuring work is prioritised, well-scoped, and aligned with business goals
  • Partner with senior engineers to translate technical direction into executable plans
  • Champion secure-by-default patterns and automation across the software development lifecycle
  • Improve developer experience by reducing friction and making the secure path the easiest path
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with development, security, and operations teams across the organisation
Key Requirement
  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager leading DevSecOps, Platform, or Infrastructure teams
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and security automation
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud security concepts
  • Familiarity with containerised and orchestrated environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience supporting and managing senior engineers with a high degree of autonomy
  • A people-first leadership approach, with a focus on coaching, feedback, and career development
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity and trade-offs

Our Technical Environment

This role does not require hands-on ownership of all tooling, but familiarity with the following areas will help you be effective:

  • AWS as our primary cloud provider
  • Kubernetes-based container orchestration (EKS)
  • CI/CD pipelines and reusable pipeline components
  • Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform / OpenTofu)
  • Identity, access management, and cloud security patterns
  • Observability and operational tooling

Our tooling evolves over time, and we value strong fundamentals and good judgement over experience with any specific tool.

Why Holland & Barrett?

This is a rare opportunity to build a platform from the ground up in a historic, global company with a startup mindset. You'll have autonomy, access to cutting-edge technology, and the support of a forward-thinking leadership team. We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and a flexible working environment.

If you're a passionate, innovative, and results-oriented leader excited by the challenge of shaping the future of observability and secure platform engineering, we'd love to hear from you.
